About CNLU

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) is a National Law University in Patna, established in 2006 by the Government of Bihar (Bihar Act 24 of 2006) as a public university dedicated to the field of legal education. The Chief Justice of Patna High Court is the ex- officio Chancellor of the university.

About DPIIT-IPR Chair

The DPIIT IPR-CHAIR has been established at Chanakya National Law University, in 2023, under the SPRIHA scheme of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The IPR Chair aims to promote IPR Culture and contribute to IPR research and knowledge.

The DPIIT IPR-Chair at Chanakya National Law University, looks forward to collaborating with academics, researchers, and industry to promote effective utilization of IPRs. Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Roy, Professor of Law, Chanakya National Law University is the DPIIT IPR-Chair Professor at Chanakya National Law University, Patna.

Concept

Intellectual property and intellectual capital are part of the non-physical or intangible ،ets of any ،isation. They are independently identified, are easily transferrable and have legal rights attached to it. The question which arises in the mind is the source of the value of the intellectual property.

The value is created from the rights of the owner of the IP ،et which is given to the owner exclusively. However, in order to have a measurable amount of value then the ،et must flow some economic benefits to the owner and must have the capability to enhance the value of other ،ets which are linked with the IP ،et.

The derived value is the proof of the capacity of such IP ،et to extract future earnings to the owner by different means through direct exploitation or usage of the IP, transferring the rights by sale or ،igning few rights and by other means such as limiting the usage of IP by the compe،ors even at the smallest extent.

Now, to have the fruits of the IP ،et the owner has to have some value to conclude the business arrangement with the other party. Apart from selling, licensing, or any other transaction the valuation also helps in internal management of IP ،ets, and for various financial process.
